Lots of Work to Be Done

Apr 09 2008 | Category :: General

img_0048.jpgJudging from this picture, it is apparent that there is much work to be done.  Pictured are the remnants of gardens past, what became a tedious and unscalable operation involving too many separate and shallow planters.  This year’s garden will comprise mostly one self-contained fabricated bed, approximately 12″x3′x8′.  Or in other words, 24 cubic feet of soil.  Some plants requiring special care will still sit in their own planters, but most of the food production will occur in the new main bed.

Spec plans for the garden bed will be posted soon.

Welcome to FireEscape Garden!

Welcome to FireEscape Garden, our little oasis in urban Williamsburg. This site will feature updates to our garden featuring organic and hard-to-find heirloom varietals. We will keep you apprised of our progress from planting through harvest and consumption, and feature recipes using harvested edibles from the garden as well as items found locally in our neighborhood. You should expect these recipes to include food items that you might not be able to find on store shelves, but these ingredients can undoubtedly be substituted with more readily available items.

Stick with us throughout the remaining spring and summer as we bring to life plants and flowers you may not have ever seen before!

Thanks,

The FireEscape Garden Team
